Web Design
A professional Web Site is the end result of many hours of computer time and artistic talent. Most people don't realize the work it takes to develop a simple Web Site - Some are easy to use, and others are needlessly complicated.
I try to strike the balance within all the features of the web. Make the site look as modern and functional as possible without going overboard with useless gadgets and ridiculous loading times. It seems to me that the current trend is to overload the first page with so much content that most users just get confused and leave. Simple Web Sites give the best overall impression. ( eg. Google and YouTube )
You have probably noticed that my Web Site is different that most - simple, easy to use and inviting. No unnecessary bloat and you can find the information you need in a few clicks of the mouse. Plus you don't have to scroll down forever - which can be frustrating.
My Web Sites are custom designed from the ground up so that every Web Site that I create is simply a "unique work of art".
Please also note, that if you have an addition or change during the design process that wasn't outlined in the original quote, it will be added onto your bill at the completion of the Web Site.
Examples of my work can be found in the "Portfolio" section.
Site Details
I offer four basic Sites to choose from - so you can decide how "intricate" you want your Web Site to be. Here are some pointers on deciding on what site is best for you.
• The first page or "Home Page" is an introduction to your Site. Use this to "paint a picture" of yourself or your business. Where you're located, products you sell, etc.
• Extra pages can be added, essentially creating a separate "Section" for products and services that should be separated from each other. One page per product type or service is normally sufficient, unless there is a lot of accompanying text - then it is advisable to create a second or third page so that the viewer doesn't get swamped with material and go somewhere else.
• If you have a dynamic business that keeps introducing more products, or needs to make announcements on a regular basis, then I recommend a "News" page. This page can act as a "press release" section so you get repeat visitors expecting updates to your product or service line. This is also a great way to save on advertising as well.
Just e-Mail me what you would like your press release to say, and I can update your news page. Or I can make it so you can update your own page very easily.
Extra Information & FAQs
I have a new Web Site...now what do I do with it?
When a Web Site is finished, I temporarily store it under this Site (eg. www.intricatedesigns.ca/your-new-website/). This is done to test the site and so you, the client, can view it and make any last minute changes. As soon as you find a permanent host, I transfer it to their web server.
Generally I offer only Web Design and Development services only - I cannot host your site permanently or give you a Domain Name. |
What is a Domain Name?
A Domain Name is what your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, Opera and Safari) uses to access the computer your Web Site is stored on. (eg. www.yourwebsite.com, www.mybusiness.ca, www.myblog.net ...etc)
For a Domain Name, there is webNames.ca, internic.ca or Network Solutions,

What is the difference between a Web Host and a Web Server?
A Host is usually defined as a place (or business) to store the Site as well as making it internet accessible. A Web Server is the dedicated computer at the Web Host that has the Site (or more) stored on it.
Looking for Hosting? There is the local Kootenay Internet Communications Society, (www.kics.bc.ca). They can set you up for hosting and E-Mail accounts. |
What does Submission to Search Engines mean?
For a search engine to show your site in the search result list, it needs to be catalogued or "indexed". This is normally done automatically, but can take months to show up.
I basically tell the main search engines (eg. Google, MSN, Yahoo! ...etc.) that this site is open to the public. The site will now show up sooner when people type in certain key search words that are relevant to your site.
This also includes a revisit in one month to assess the ranking of your site to see if it's ranking well. If not, I will rework the site until it shows up better.

What is an Information Submission Form?
The "Information Submission Form" allows users to either request information, sign up for a service, or even order a product. Also, using these more advanced forms instead of the simple "Click the e-mail link and my Outlook Express pops up" style of request, you can greatly reduce the amount of spam that people normally get through their business' website. |
How do I setup my e-Mails on my computer?
The e-Mail setup depends on which hosting service you sign up for. I can assist in setting up your new e-Mail address (eg. yourname@yourbusiness.com) with your favourite e-Mail program. |
